Alaska Area Update
Start planning your Troop’s Open House, but don’t start from scratch. There are some great resources on the Trail Life USA website.
California Troop visits Kodiak Baptist Mission
Troop CA-0210 traveled to Alaska and made it to our own Woody Island. They made some knives in the kiln, built a bridge, and camped in the rain. The bridge will serve as a connecting trail to Trailmen Hill and will support future
AK-0226 Eagle River
Here are some pics from the Caines Head backpacking trip in early June. Two nights and three days visiting an abandoned fortification south of Seward. Beautiful weather, minimalist camping near the beach under tarps only and tons of airsoft battles – great fun!
AK-1001 Kodiak
Our first Trailmen Games was held in June. We will be holding future Trailmen Games each summer.
AK-2018 Palmer
A new fire pit project came about because Troop AK-2018, the local church youth group, and other church ministries did not have a real fire pit to have campfires to gather around. After talking with the youth pastor, the troop decided to present the church governing board with two options of where to build a permanent fire pit.
From there the Troop set out to level part of the field in front of the church and build the fire pit area. They kept in mind that it needed to be big enough to accommodate large numbers of people, while still being small enough to be a warming/cooking fire. Future upgrades will be wood benches and a covered firewood storage area near the fire.

Seriously
The Olympics are over, but this is still funny.
We don’t have coons in Alaska, but this seemed like a very Trail Life type activity. I think an Alaska troop needs to adopt this concept and adapt it. This event was held just a month ago.
